TIP #2--MAKE A PLAN:
TIP #3--KEEP A “GROCERY” BUDGET:
TIP #4--SHOP THE SALES:
- Look at what you have before you plan any new meals
- Use up every last bit of what you have and be creative and challenge yourself!
- Strive for ZERO FOOD WASTE by thinking of ways to incorporate and repurpose things in your fridge, pantry and freezer (EVEN LEFTOVERS) into new meals.
- Meal plan dinners for the week or month.
- Cook and use up leftovers
- Plan days for cooking and utilize the batch cooking method (easier clean up and saves time) cook up a large batch and serve more than one day #cookonceeattwice
- Embrace leftovers
- Keep in mind foods you can freeze like cheese, bread, herbs, and staple veggies like spinach, peas, carrots and broccoli--these are usually always a better deal frozen!
- TO ME a grocery budget includes FOOD AND household items. If you can buy it in a grocery store or supercenter then it is a grocery item.
- Limit household items and see where you can cut back (limit soaps and serums keep it simple)
- GOING OUT TO EAT should have a separate budget category.
- It is ok if you love to go out to eat, but to make things simple and more budget friendly, plan it into your meal plan but take it out of a “fun/entertainment/or going out to eat” budget category
- Eating at home a large percentage of time (especially for families) will save more money if you cook and eat the groceries and stick to your plan.
- Begin to know your what “GOOD PRICES ARE” by looking at fliers in your area or using the flip app.
- Look at the front and back page of ads--these have the best deals
- Buy produce when it is in season
- Forget coupons and use store brands--they are almost ALWAYS cheaper than a name brand with a coupon.
- Stack coupons that come in the paper or mail with items on sale
- Stock up on good deals for about 6-8 weeks because that is the length of a normal sales cycle (that item will usually go on sale again in the next 6-8 weeks--so don’t kill your budget)
- Check for longer expiration dates when shopping to extend the life of your food.
- USE IBOTTA to save even more (GET $10 WITH YOUR FIRST REDEMPTION!!!)
- Try to go to the grocery store no more than once a week.
- WHAT I DO IS-> MONTHLY MEAL PLAN and shop for a big haul and then do smaller shopping trips each week and shop the sales to fill in.
- Stores are designed to have you impulse shop and spend more money.
- Use grocery pick up option if available.
- I have done my own research and have saved money picking up essentials rather than going into the store.
- Try picking up groceries like-->WALMART GROCERY PICKUP
